No of victims: the writer+guest
The Damage: EUR 85 for two including tips
The Entrance: You know I was tempted to drive away, when I saw the restaurant from the outside. It looked as if it was closed, if it weren’t for the two smokers enjoying their cigs in the blazing November sun. Looks a bit shabby from the outside! The entrance door is definitely in need of a make-over. The inside of the restaurant is more welcoming, though needs a revamp too. Once I spotted the food on various tables, and the overwhelming aromas of food, I completely forgot all about the entrance.
The Service: Our server, or rather the first one who greeted us was very polite and jovial. With him we placed our order at around 1340hrs…but did not get the starter before 1440hrs, by which time we had downed the Italian wine which was intended to accompany our meal. Why was the guy (who arrived at 1400hrs) served with his started only after 15 minutes? Bread was never placed on our table…we had to ask for it. I simply love good olive oil (you believe I was sitting on the one table who did not have olive oil on the table)…oh well I had to ask for the oil too! Oh by the way they also forgot the cloth that usually accompanies the wine…there was a pool on our table! We ordered our second bottle of wine, this time a South African Chenin Blanc. But seriously now…do you really have to ask for the wine glass to be replaced if you are having a different wine?!
The Food: We shared the starter: Tortelloni stuffed with lobster and crab, and finished off with a lobster sauce. They are displayed in the section of specialties in the main course page….they were incredibly tasty!!!! Four were not enough, eight would not have been enough either! For mains we had Rack of Lamb and T-Bone of Veal, both cooked to a perfect medium, served with a wedge of lemon, on a base of olive oil (too much!). We opted for roasted potatoes and vegetables (instead of chips and salad). The spinach and potatoes were not enough for two, as the waiter (another one) serving us rightly noticed, so he brought us more vegetables…grilled aubergines, marrows and green peppers which were to die for !!
The Other Big Disappointment: Asking if we want coffee/dessert, when we still had half a bottle of wine to enjoy.
The atmosphere: is relaxed, and we were allowed to linger on till early evening…by which time the restaurant was being organized to accommodate the evening diners.
The Verdict: I liked this Trattoria and their very delicious creations. Go, but only if you are ready to wait (or if you know the owners). Maybe visiting the
restaurant on Sunday lunch did not lend itself to a typical experience, with a restaurant jam-packed with people. The food is amazing but pricey. I ll definitely go again…as I want to taste the ‘pesce al sale’, which seemed to be popular with the other customers.
