The Location: The restaurant is situated in an alley off one of daytime’s busiest Sliema roads. Once we climbed up the few steps that leave Bisazza Street behind, we found ourselves into a jam-packed restaurant. We were greeted by the hostess, to who we gladly confirmed our reservation.
No of Victims: writer and guest
The Damage: EUR 52
The atmosphere: The decor fits perfectly to the description of a Maltese Bistro. The atmosphere is friendly and the environment is relaxed. There are also about three or four tables that accommodate two people outside. Inside, the air was a bit stuffy.
The Service: It took a little while before the menus were handed to us. However from the moment we placed our orders onwards the service was excellent and prompt.
The Menu: Menu consists of various Maltese dishes including rabbit and ‘braggjoli’, as well as Mediterranean dishes, such as chicken, meat, fish and pasta dishes.
The Wine List: comprises of a variety of wines from all over the world. There are enough wines to choose from, and the wines are very well priced!!
The food: For starters we shared a deep fried cheeslet (gbejna) which was served on a bed of vegetables. The infusion of taste of the cheese, the vegetables and the dressing was impeccable with every morsel. However the dish was ridiculously priced at EUR 7.80.
For mains I had beef rib-eye which was cooked perfectly, and served with roasted potatoes and grilled aubergines andmarrows. RM had the braggjoli, which I also tasted. They were impeccable, tender and tasty!!
Dessert: We were too full to attempt stuffing anything else into our system, so we passed and opted for coffee and liquor.
The Verdict: Fantastic home made food, good value for money and great atmosphere.Ta’ Kris Restaurant
