La Sfoglia Valletta

Date of Last Visit: 24.12.2011 for lunch

The Location: Valletta, near (is-suq tal-Belt) the indoor market

No of Victims:  4

The Damage: EUR 32 each including tips

The atmosphere:  The ideal place to get away from the chaos, though it might not be everyone’s piece of cake to dine in an underground room.   There are in fact two adjacent rooms, and it can be very intimate if the restaurant is not busy.

The Service: The service was very good and the person attending our table was well-informed about the food being served that day.

The Menu:  Before making our mind on our choice of food, we were served with some olives, a mixture of olive oil and balsamico and warm bread.   The bread was super fresh and yes that is of utmost importance!!

La Sfoglia displays its daily menu on a blackboard, and offers a selection of different options.   We shared two different starters between the four us.   The pork cheeks were amazingly tender and served in balsamic sauce and accompanied by a salad.  The ravioli funghi (mushrooms) porcini which were served with a truffle sauce were very tasty and fulfilling.   For mains three of us had the Veal Ribeye whereas the fourth guest had fish. The presentation of each plate I must say was a spectacle with vegetables, mashed and roasted potatoes.  We were too full to have dessert, so we had liqueurs and coffees which were offered on the house.

The Wine List:  There isn’t exactly a very vast selection but familiar wines at reasonable prices.

The Verdict: I want to go back to try more of La Sfoglia’s delicacies, and I am highly recommending to everyone!

thanks Deborah for your comment…what do u think of their prices?

  • Deborah

Pricewise not cheap but once l pay for good food and something different from the usuall boring plates it s fine. For example the rib eye usually cost around 21€ from most of the restaurants, however from here costs 25€ but it comes as a big piece of tasty and juicy meat, besides the presentation and layout of plate makes it worth every penny !
