Guzé – Ta’ Xbiex Marina

Date of Last Visit: Wednesday 09th December 2009

No of victims: 5

The Damage: EUR 17 each

The Ambience: A tranquil atmosphere greets you as soon as you step inside the restaurant and to emphasize this set up there are the spectacular Valletta bastions.

The Service:  Service is good and prompt.    Though I must point out that once we were seated we were not asked whether we want to order pre-dinner drinks…we were the ones to ask the staff.   Also if customers are still having a look at the menu, it means they are not ready to place their order, so why insist for the orders to be placed?!!

The Food:  We really could not decide what to eat.   The menu at Guzé offers an assorted choice from starters, salads, soups, pasta, grills, burgers, pizza, and main dishes including duck breast, lamb shanks, spare ribs and fresh fish.   Eventually the following were our choices for the evening:

Starter:  We shared a Focaccia with parmigiano and fresh mozzarella.  The focaccia dough was excellent as were the toppings.    I wish it was bigger though 🙂

Main:  Most of us opted for pasta.   Two chose the salmon and asparagus penne, which I tasted.    The taste of salmon (as usual) was overpowering, but overall it was good.   Someone else opted for the linguine with prawns, zucchini and star anise, which I tasted as well.   The star anise flavour enhanced the overall combination of this pasta dish.  I am not sure the prawns were fresh though.   Someone else opted for the Fillet of Beef which was served on a bed of vegetables with potatoes.  I did not taste but beef looked of superior quality.   I enjoyed the home made chicken and walnut tortelloni which were stuffed with chicken and served with fresh cream, walnuts and chicken liver…the perfect choice for a cold winter evening.

Wine:   we did not have wine, and actually thinking about it, the wine list was never handed over to us.   I tried having a look at the choice of wine on Guzé’s website, but unfortunately it was not displayed.

Dessert:  No one opted for dessert, as we were quite full following our mains, and yet again I must point out that not ample time was given to us in between courses.    We had liquors and coffees instead.

The Verdict:  I would go again and recommend it to anyone especially for its substantial selection of food at affordable prices, and definitely in my opinion a better option to the hectic neighbour restaurant.
